NOVEMBER 5 "PRAISE & GRATITUDE"
Lisa was presiding over yet another funeral and she would be lying if she didn't admit some were easier and more pleasant to preside over, than others. Lisa approached Tom, who was doing the eulogy, she said, "let me see watcha ya got? “That's it?” she said, “two sentences, you're gonna have at least 50 people here John, looking up at you, listening to you, hoping to hear something praiseworthy come out of your mouth and you have two sentences, that’s not gonna work, you'd better work it Tom, I don't care if you have to make it up", Lisa said.
It made her think of the funeral she attended two months prior, have presided over many funerals herself as a funeral conductor, this was definitely special. It was for her great grandpa and how different that funeral was, not just because it was for someone dear to her but because of the praise that many had for this great man.
In this case it was the opposite, the eulogy was too long, not to short. We had to cut the eulogy in half. We also had to many people signed up to want to give a praise worthy report of my grandpa so we turned some away, we had no choice. I mentioned to them maybe they could share at the reception afterwards, but we only had the funeral parlor booked for an hour.
One thing I learned from these two funerals, even being in the business as long as I have. And that is; praise never has to be forced, if someone has gratitude towards another, you can't keep it in. And if someone has no gratitude, you can't force it out!
