APRIL 18 "THE ONE INCIDENT THAT RUINS FOR LIFE"

My Wife and I were at Tim Hortons, in Montreal, Que. having Breakfast, at the table across from us were two latina women and a man, engulfed in conversation, speaking in their native language. Then, along came a 70 year old, looking quite destitute, that sat at the table next to them.  He sat alone and wasted no time interjecting himself into their conversation.  “Is that Spanish I hear you speaking or Mexican, cause you know there is quite a difference”.  They  responded, “yes, actually we are from Mexico”.  From that point on the needy man kept interjecting himself into their conversation.  You could tell by the look on their faces they were quite taken back by his insistence to be part of their conversation.  The more he talked the deeper and personal he got.  Then he went back to when he and his family first arrived in Montreal.  When he was a little boy, his Father, Mother, sister and himself moved from France to Montreal. A happy family they were, then four months after their arrival, his dad had an accident and died. From that moment, both tables fell silent.  The man did not say another word, looked down and within minutes left the Cafe without saying another word.

Could it be that the reason this man looked so destitute and needy is because of this incident that happened to him over 63 years ago?  Was this the first time or one of many, that in conversation with strangers, he had brought up the incident that ruined him, 63 years prior?

It made me think of how many people are ruined today, because of “one incident” that struck them many years ago, that they never recovered from.  This ought not to be so.  Life is full of tragedies, but the greatest tragedy is when our lives become a tragedy because of that tragedy.

I can’t help but think of the Apostle Paul, who had “the one incident” with the innocent disciple Stephen, who became a martyr at his approval and many more. Paul has had dark times in his life, regrets, like all of us, but Paul wisely says, “forgetting what lies behind, I press on forward”.  Now we know Paul never forgets, because he mentions it.  I believe what Paul is saying is, “I choose to close that chapter of my life, it was a dark time, but I choose not to live there anymore and through Christ, I can do all things. Now many use that verse to overcome an addiction or sin, and all the power to you, but I believe Paul is using that context in God giving him the ability, to overcome, move past, “that one incident” that can ruin for life”.   What is “the one incident” that you will allow to ruin you?

He Is A 70 Year Old Man. Looking kind Of Destitute &  Alone

Still Haunted, Still Affected By What Happened To Him 63 Years Ago.

The Incident That Ruins Us Forever; This Cannot Be. This should not be!
