FEBRUARY 18 "ARE YOU COMMITTED TO THE CAUSE"

When I was in the Marine Corps, I had duty on Christmas day and the other Marine I was on duty with was the Sergeant Major of the base (Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Az). He volunteered for duty every Christmas because he didn’t have a family and he figured it was one less person, that does have a family, that wouldn't have to be dragged away on Christmas day (Very thoughtful). Being on duty for 24hrs, we had much time to talk and it came up that I was a Christian. That’s when he began to tell me he wasn't impressed with Christians. He admitted he wasn't a Christian and didn’t believe in religion and God, but said he believed in the Marine Corps; and because he believed in the Marine Corps he gave his life to the Marines and because of that he excelled through the ranks when those around him didn't. He showed me all his uniforms and medallions that he had been awarded over a very long and illustrious career in the Corps. He had each of his uniforms mounted on a manikin, with the medals he earned, a couple of Purple Hearts and many more along with a plak indicating which war he had fought in. He rose up to the highest rank attainable for an Enlisted Marine. He said what he believes in, he has given his life too, but as far as Christians, for all their talk about Jesus and saving the world, he said for all that he hears about what they believe; he doesn't see them giving their lives to it, he saw lots of talk, but very little action. What could I say? I was guilty myself.

If God spoke through a donkey to Balaam; then I believe that God spoke to me through this high ranking heathen that has given his life to that which is fleeting as the flower in the fields; and I believe he spoke for God that day, not just to me, but to the whole Christian Community at large.
