JULY 17 "FIXED FIGHT"
Walter M. is suing the Amateur Mixed Martial Arts, otherwise known as, "MMA" amateur league for false advertisement. Walter responded to an add he’d seen advertising for a volunteer for a fight that would be fixed, earning him $100.00 for 15 min fight, the add called for..."some martial arts experience and/or wrestling skills", $100.00 for 15 minutes. Walter responded to the add and upon further interview was told personally, the fight would be fixed, eventually his opponent would allow himself to be tied up into a choke hold and he would tap out and he would win the fight. Walter had a yellow belt in Taekwondo and wrestled in high school so he thought, why not, $100.00 for 15 min, fixed fight, no brainer! Walter got into the ring on may 7th, ready to win a fight, start his MMA career and bring home an easy $100 until he got a round house kick to the head, he went down immediately and could not seem to get back up. His opponent was leaning over him, whispering, “you have to get back up, you have to get back up, if you’re going to get paid.” Walter managed to drag himself back up, only to take a knee in the mid-section just a few seconds later. Walter is suing the amateur MMA profession and the gym (who’s name has been withheld, that participated in the event) for $10,000.00 in punitive damages and another $10, 000 in medical costs incurred from the fight, a bruised rib and broken nose. The defense attorney is arguing that Walter has no claim, his client performed and paid as advertised. Walter was paid his $100.00, at the end of the fight and his client did allow himself to be subdued in a choke hold. The defense attorney contested that the add & his client never claimed his opponent would not get hit or bruised in the fight, merely that it would be fixed and he would allow himself to be beat in the end. The defense attorney also provided a copy of the waiver of liability, signed by the plaintiff releasing them of any responsibility for any physical damages incurred in fight. The case was immediately dismissed by the judge. How perfect this describes Christians today. “It’s a fixed fight, I read the end of the book”, they say. Its seems we want to enter into Christianity with the promise that not only will we win, but we won’t get hurt either and nowhere in the Bible are we told or promised that, as a matter of a fact, the Bible says the opposite, we will be hit & bruised, and yes we do win in the end, but only if we endure, only if we get back up, “for he who endures to the end, shall be saved”.
