NOVEMBER 1 “TWO ARE BETTER THAN ONE”

 One woman wrote: I agree that two are better than one Because I always look thinner when I stand beside him Two are better than one Because when its cold he gets up to to light the fire Two are better than one Because when there's a spider in the house I don't have to kill it, he does Two are better than one Because when the principal calls They're his kids not mine Two are better than one Because when I lose my temper Its his fault, not mine Two are better than one Because I can't scratch my own back And last Two are better than one Because I have the gift of spending And he has the gift of earning

AUGUST 24 "SHEEP THAT STRAY"

Dr. Andrew Bonar told me how, in the Highlands of Scotland, a sheep would often wander off into the rocks and get into places that they couldn't get out of. The grass on these mountains is very sweet and the sheep like it, and they will jump down ten or twelve feet, and then they can't jump back again, and the shepherd hears them bleating in distress. They may be there for days, until they have eaten all the grass. The shepherd will wait until they are so faint they cannot stand, and then they will put a rope around him, and he will go over and pull that sheep up out of the jaws of death. "Why don't they go down there when the sheep first gets there?" I asked. "Ah!" He said, "they are so very foolish they would dash right over the precipice and be killed if they did!" SEPTEMBER 16 "DON'T BREAK OFF THE KNOBS!"

Mr. Jones, through the advice of a “former friend” once bought a new radio, brought it home, placed it on the refrigerator, plugged it in, turned it to WSM in Nashville (home of the Grand Ole Opry) set the volume and station where he wanted it and then made sure to break off all the knobs to make sure his wife couldn’t change the station or adjust the volume to her liking, as he knew she would try to do! It worked like a charm. This idea worked so well he decided rather than to keep fighting with his wife over the temperature in the house, to adjust the air in the home to the temperature he liked and then went on-line and set up a pass code that needed to be entered, each time the temperature was to be changed, in case his wife wanted or thought she would change it to her preference.
