JUNE 22 "HOW DO YOU SOUND?"

The name Stradivarius is synonymous with fine violins. This is true because Antonius Stradivarius insisted that no instrument constructed in his shop be sold until it was as near perfection as human care and skill could make it. Stradivarius observed, "God needs violins to send His music into the world, and if any violins are defective God's music will be spoiled." His work philosophy was summed up in one sentence: "Other men will make other violins, but no man shall make a better one."

AUGUST 24 "SHEEP THAT STRAY"

Dr. Andrew Bonar told me how, in the Highlands of Scotland, a sheep would often wander off into the rocks and get into places that they couldn't get out of. The grass on these mountains is very sweet and the sheep like it, and they will jump down ten or twelve feet, and then they can't jump back again, and the shepherd hears them bleating in distress. They may be there for days, until they have eaten all the grass. The shepherd will wait until they are so faint they cannot stand, and then they will put a rope around him, and he will go over and pull that sheep up out of the jaws of death. "Why don't they go down there when the sheep first gets there?" I asked. "Ah!" He said, "they are so very foolish they would dash right over the precipice and be killed if they did!" SEPTEMBER 16 "DON'T BREAK OFF THE KNOBS!"

Mr. Jones, through the advice of a “former friend” once bought a new radio, brought it home, placed it on the refrigerator, plugged it in, turned it to WSM in Nashville (home of the Grand Ole Opry) set the volume and station where he wanted it and then made sure to break off all the knobs to make sure his wife couldn’t change the station or adjust the volume to her liking, as he knew she would try to do! It worked like a charm. This idea worked so well he decided rather than to keep fighting with his wife over the temperature in the house, to adjust the air in the home to the temperature he liked and then went on-line and set up a pass code that needed to be entered, each time the temperature was to be changed, in case his wife wanted or thought she would change it to her preference.
